Florida Keys fishing tournaments run pretty much year-round, but they cluster around the spring and fall sailfish seasons. Islamorada calls itself the sportfishing capital of the world for a reason: the Cheeca Presidential Sailfish, the Don Hawley Memorial, the Islamorada Sailfish Tournament. They all run out of Islamorada. Marathon hosts the Marathon Dolphin Tournament in May. Big tarpon runs through Florida Bay in spring bring out the fly-fishing tournaments. Key West has its own circuit, especially for offshore species. Most tournaments are catch-and-release, most have a charity component, and most book up months in advance.
