What's happening in Marathon
Marathon is the middle Keys, MM 47 to 71. It's also where most people who live in the Keys year-round actually live, which means the calendar here leans more local than touristy. Vaca Key has the biggest concentration: live music on the waterfront, the Original Marathon Seafood Festival in March, the Marathon Air Show in April, monthly art walks, and a packed youth-sports schedule. Pigeon Key (the historic island under the Seven Mile Bridge) runs its own tours, lectures, and fundraisers. The Turtle Hospital does education events. Summer is heavy on fishing: the Marathon Dolphin Tournament in May, Sailfish in winter. If it's on the Marathon calendar, locals are at it too.
