Key Largo & Upper Keys Events

What's happening in Key Largo & Upper Keys

Key Largo is the first stop coming down from the mainland: Mile Marker 92 to 113, the Upper Keys, where US-1 finally hits the islands. Below MM 92 it becomes Tavernier, which this calendar counts as part of the Key Largo region, so the region runs from MM 90 to 113. The event scene here leans toward water. John Pennekamp Coral Reef State Park runs its own programs year-round. Live music shows up everywhere along the highway every weekend. November through April is the heaviest stretch, packed with fishing tournaments and nonprofit fundraisers, the family-friendly Light Up Key Largo, and the famous Upper Keys Irish Fest, all on top of snowbird and gala season. Summer is lighter but still going, and it closes with the biggest Fourth of July parade in the Florida Keys.

What's the biggest event in Key Largo?
A few compete for it: the Upper Keys Irish Fest, the family-friendly Light Up Key Largo, and the biggest Fourth of July parade in the Florida Keys all pull big crowds. Year-round, John Pennekamp's underwater programs and the winter dive-tournament season are the steadiest draws on the calendar.
When's the best time to come to Key Largo for events?
November through April. That's when fishing tournament season, nonprofit fundraisers, and the snowbird crowd all overlap, so the calendar is full. Summer is quieter but still has live music, family fishing, and the biggest Fourth of July parade in the Keys.
